Getting Started
Use this guide to confirm that your account, organization, selected store, navigation, and first-use prerequisites are ready.
Before you begin
Have:
- the email address tied to your PeakPOS account;
- access to your invitation email, if you were invited; and
- the name of the organization and store you expect to use.
Your organization administrator controls membership and role assignments. Peak Support handles provisioning work that is not available in the Merchant Portal.
1. Sign in
- Open portal.peakpos.co.
- Sign in with the method configured for your account.
- Complete any account or multi-factor prompts shown on screen.
If you received an invitation, start from the invitation link so the portal can associate your account with the intended organization. If you cannot remember your password, use the password-reset option on the sign-in screen.
2. Confirm the organization
The active organization controls your organization-wide data, features, and permissions.
- If you can access more than one organization, use Select organization in the sidebar and choose the intended organization.
- If you can access only one organization, its name appears in the sidebar without a selector.
Switching organizations reloads the available stores, features, permissions, and navigation. Confirm the organization before making any changes.
3. Select the store
Use Select store in the sidebar to choose the location you are working with. Store-scoped pages use this selection.
Before continuing, verify the selected store name in the sidebar and page context. If the expected store is absent, ask an organization administrator to confirm your store membership. Contact Peak Support when the location itself has not been provisioned.
4. Know whether a page is store- or organization-scoped
PeakPOS separates selected-store work from organization-wide work:
- Store-scoped pages act on the store chosen in Select store. Examples include Dashboard, Sales & Payments, Products, Inventory, Reports, Settings, Terminals, and Staff under Store Operations.
- Organization-scoped pages act across the active organization. Examples include Organization, Locations, Staff under Organization, Categories, Suppliers, and Integrations → General.
Some sections contain an intentional exception. Store Tax Policy appears under Organization but applies to the selected store. Use the page context and scope indicator rather than assuming that every page in a section has the same scope.
5. Confirm features and permissions
The sidebar is personalized. PeakPOS removes a page when the organization does not have its feature or your role does not have the required permission. A section disappears when none of its pages are available.
Check that the navigation entries required for your job are visible. In particular:
- Peak AI appears only for organizations with Peak AI and users who can access it.
- Read access can show a page without showing its edit actions.
- Some actions require several permissions even when the page itself is visible.
If an expected entry or action is missing, ask an organization administrator to review your role. Contact Peak Support when the organization's enabled features or provisioning need attention.
6. Open Dashboard
Select Dashboard. It is a selected-store page and appears when your role can view the store's sales or inventory status.
Confirm that:
- the intended organization is active;
- the intended store is selected; and
- the Dashboard loads for that store.
If Dashboard is not visible, your role does not currently have the required sales or inventory access.
7. Complete the first-use prerequisites
Work through these areas before relying on the store for daily operations.
Store details and operational defaults
Use Store Setup to review:
- Organization → Locations for the selected location's operational name, address, and phone;
- Settings for the selected store's timezone, operating hours, and checkout behavior; and
- Organization → Store Tax Policy to inspect and preview the selected store's effective checkout tax policy.
Peak Support owns organization-profile changes, missing-location provisioning, Gateway tax connections, and store tax policy changes.
Staff access
Organization membership comes before store assignment:
- Use Organization → Staff to invite and review organization staff.
- Use Store Operations → Staff to add eligible organization members to the selected store and assign store roles.
Actions appear only when your role has the necessary administrative permissions. See Staff Management for the focused staff guide.
Terminals
Open Store Operations → Terminals and confirm that the expected devices are registered to the selected store and report the expected status. Peak Support adds terminals and completes payment provisioning; terminal administrators can manage the payment configuration exposed in the portal. See Terminals.
Catalog and inventory
Open Catalog & Inventory → Products and Inventory. Confirm that the products needed for first use exist and that the selected store's stock data is ready. Follow Products and Inventory.
Sales and payment access
Open Store Operations → Sales & Payments and confirm that the page is available to the people responsible for transaction review. Payment processing also depends on terminal and Gateway provisioning. See Sales & Payments.
You are ready when
First-use readiness is complete when you can reach Dashboard with the intended organization and store selected, and the navigation required for your tasks is visible. Store details, staff assignments, terminals, catalog data, and payment provisioning must also be ready for the workflows you plan to use.
If those conditions are not met, do not guess at missing access or configuration. Ask an organization administrator about membership and permissions, or email [email protected] for provisioning and support-owned changes.
